Community Affordable Housing Equity Corporation needed a
database application to track their quickly growing property management
business, but could not find anything suitable on the market. They began
creating the application in-house using only Microsoft Access, but soon realized
the application was more complicated than originally expected. Upward
Technologies was contacted and came in to assess their business needs and
proposed to not only finish their application, but also to train their database
developer on how to modify the application. This was very appealing to them,
since they did not know up front exactly what the application would allow them
to do. We worked together on this project from the very beginning, replacing the
Access forms with Visual Basic screens to allow much more flexibility. The
project was defined as we went along, so the agreement worked out very nicely.
The application allows staff at CAHEC to enter properties into a
database, including the specific information for each property. Several business
rules were implemented to make the input easier and faster. They are currently
running the program from a server with 5 different users. An extensive user
management section was created to allow the administrator to modify users as
needed.
