Nortel Networks employs a staff of several hundred field engineers whose
responsibility it is to visit customers' sites in preparation for an equipment sale and
installation. They were using a printout of a series of questions and tables that they
would fill out at the site and then enter the information into a spreadsheet when they got
back to their office. Upward Technologies demonstrated to Nortel how using a Palm Pilot to conduct the
site survey and a desktop application to modify and save the data to a shared
database would make life much easier for the engineers.
The engineers are very excited about being able to carry a small PDA into the sites to
record the information.
A custom conduit is used to synchronize the data in the Palm
database with an Access database.
